This form of advertising is pretty much forced on society. According to the web site of Holosonic (the manufacturer of the speaker system), the sound is created by a speaker directing a beam of ultrasonic frequencies (which we can't hear) that interacts with air that distorts the ultrasonic waves to create a sound.
In New York City a billboard emits highly focused sound that resonates within the skulls of passersby. Its a novel way of advertising, a potentially terrifying intrusion and, according to technology writer Clive Thompson, the leading edge of a new civil rights battleground- the right to privacy in your own mind.

Minority Report- Style advertising that targets consumers will be here within a few years a report has predicited!!
Experts say a new revolution in advertising is set to arrive by 2015 with the creation of' 'Gladvertising'. Cameras backed with emotion recognition software will detect your mood and target you with an advert. So if you are making your way home from work in the rain feeling miserable you could expect to see an advert for a soothing spa in the tropical sun. Campaigners have warned of a privacy breach as companies will be able to access personal information. These digital billboards will link with the next generation smart phones and offer interactive experiences. They will have information such as anniversaries, favourite food and leisure activities. The technology could also detect which shops you have visited, what you have bought and their location.. Simon Davies, Director of Privacy International says: Consumers will be seduced or tricked by Mobile providers into giving information and companies will trade data with legal impunity. |
