Sound Mapping

The Turner Prize is a contemporary art prize that was set up in  1984 to celebrate new developments in contemporary art. Previous winners consist of the prestigious prize are Damien Hirst for his formaldahyde shark and  Tracy Emin for 'My Bed'.
In 2007 Mark Wallinger won the Turner Prize for his Sleeper, which showed a film of him dressed in a Bear costume walking around the empty space of a museum, but the prize was officailly given for his  recraetion of Brian Haws anti war installation of objects in Trafalgar Sqaure in London.

In 2010, Susan Philipz a sound artist  was the first ever Turner Prize winner to win with a sound piece, a sound piece that consisted for her own voice, singing a Scottish song.  Her installation ' Lowlands' was set up under three bridges in Glasgow while she sung the traditional song ' Lowlands Away'. Her sound piece consisted of her own fragile voice echoing through the city river banks. A beautiful piece in my opinion!
