Susan Lacy- Writings on Performance, Politics, and Publics. 1974-2007 |
In the 1980's Suzanne Lacy worked with a community of 430 women, aged 60 or older . The women created an open forum and dialogue while aiming to change perceptions of the aging generation. the performance was staged on a 40 foot rug with tables placed on it designed by artist Miriam Schapiro to resemble a patchwork quilt. they women sat in a comfortable manner and shared their lives, every ten minutes changing seating arrangements, thus altering the quilt work pattern when viewed from above. Their conversations were recorded and snippets were broadcast on television. Over three thousand people attended the event to witness older women talk about their lives.
