Who lives here?

While working on a project with some of my peers. We worked together on a project in relation to the ghost estates in Ireland. Our aim was to question ownership within the public sphere. At what stage does private property become public?

As with most ghost estates throughout Ireland right now, It all began with the temptation of the Celtic Tiger. The Celtic Tiger presented gold coins to many common folk, what these commoners did not realise is that they had to repay the Tiger. The common folk built castles and villages galore in the hope to make profit from their gold coins. What they had not predicted is that the villages they were creating did not have any villagers to live in as not everybody in the village were given gold coins. While the Kings of the Castles were living a life of luxury and wealth, the villagers were struggling to make ends meat. The Celtic Tiger soon ran out of gold coins and roared his huge voice throughout the kingdom. He wanted repayment of his gold coins and with profit. One night the Celtic Tiger and the Kings of the Castles discussed the future of the kingdom over a huge feast of lavish goods. It was revealed that the kingdom was in major financial trouble and that they had simply wasted all their gold on living fanciful lives out of gold coins. Throughout the six hour feast it was decided that all the villagers would repay all the gold coins. This way the Celtic Tiger and the Kings of the Castles could continue to live their lavish lives, this meant that the villagers had to work twice as hard to earn the gold coins to give to the Celtic Tiger and the Kings. Most of the new villages had to be abandoned. This kingdom is in ruins and the villagers need help to get their point across as most of them fear the Celtic Tiger and the Kings in case  they will take their houses.

While we discussed the political and economic concerns locally and nationally, it was obvious that the friendly little neighbourhood did not know who owned this abandoned estate. We felt that this needed to be addressed.
Abandoned Ghost Estate

This text was that starting point. Somebody had already been questioning the ownership of this ghost estate.

My Montage of Ghost Estate

I wanted to give attention to these estates by cresting this montage of Mannequins in the Ghost Estate

  1. An apt description of the situation - put so that it makes society look even more ridiculous, but perhaps even more powerless in real terms.
